6,000+ acre fire under assault by California and Nevada Department of Forestries.

Rick Pisio Reports...

A six thousand acre fire was burning at Verdi, alone the California-Nevada State border off Interstate 80 as firefighters fought the blaze from the Air & Ground on August 11, 2006. I passed through the area during my return from a trip to the Aerial Firefighting Museum at Greybull, Montana, and recorded these few images while the fight was on. Bell UH-1 Helicopters from the Nevada Department of Forestry, Minden-Gardnerville, Nevada, and S-2T Turbine Trackers from the California Department of Forestry (CDF) battled the smokey blaze which at one time threatened housing near the Del Webb Parkway off I-80 west-north-west of Reno. The fire started near the Boomtown Casino on Friday and was driven eastbound toward Peavine Mountain, north of Reno.
